Assessments

A psychological assessment answers a question that therapy, school, work, or a physician cannot answer on impressions alone: what is actually going on? Through clinical interviews, a review of records, and standardized testing, an assessment clarifies diagnoses and learning profiles, and produces documentation that can guide treatment and support accommodations at school or work.

At Silm Centre for Mental Health, assessments are offered to children, adolescents, and adults, in person at our North York (Toronto) and Oakville offices, virtually, or in a combination of both. Every assessment is person-centred and trauma-informed, and our team is always screening beyond the original question — an assessment here does not simply answer yes or no; it looks for the best explanation for a person’s symptoms and patterns. From first contact to final report the process typically takes 8 to 12 weeks, and we have no waitlist. The first step is a free initial consultation.

Psychodiagnostic Assessments

A psychodiagnostic assessment clarifies the presence of mental illness. People seek one when the picture is unclear, when treatment is not working as expected, when a second opinion is needed, or when formal documentation is required — for medication decisions, work or school accommodations, or disability applications including ODSP, long-term disability, and the Disability Tax Credit.
→ Psychodiagnostic Assessments — $2,500–$3,000

Psychoeducational Assessments

A psychoeducational assessment examines how a person learns and identifies learning disabilities. Students, parents, and adults seek one when school or work performance does not match effort or ability, and its documentation supports accommodations in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary settings.
→ Psychoeducational Assessments — $3,500

ADHD Assessments

An ADHD assessment determines whether attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder best explains a person’s difficulties with attention, organization, and follow-through. People seek one after years of workarounds that have stopped working, when a child is struggling at school, or when documentation is needed for accommodations or medication decisions.
→ ADHD Assessments — $2,500–$3,000

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessments

An ASD assessment explores whether autism best explains a person’s social, sensory, and communication patterns — including in adults and in people who have masked their differences for years. People seek one for self-understanding, for documentation and accommodations, and to guide support that actually fits.
→ Autism Assessments — $4,000

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Assessments

An FASD assessment examines the cognitive, behavioural, and emotional effects of prenatal alcohol exposure. Psychologists cannot diagnose FASD alone, but a psychological assessment can confirm the cognitive profile, support a multidisciplinary diagnosis, and document the accommodations a person needs.
→ FASD Assessments — $5,000

More than one question?

If you are wondering about more than one thing — for example, a learning disability and a mental health concern — we can often assess for both together. We will discuss the cost of the combined assessment with you at intake, or later, if we notice during the assessment that something requires further exploration. The cost is generally $500 to $1,000 more than the cost of a single assessment, depending on the scope of the additional assessment — not the cost of both assessments added together. We will never proceed without your consent.

Costs can vary depending on the type of documentation required. Our services are offered by registered psychologists (often with the support from psychometrists), which means they are often covered by extended health benefits plans. Assessments may also be funded through WSIB, the Interim Federal Health Program, Veterans / Canadian Armed Forces / RCMP benefits, NIHB, Victim Services, and post-secondary funding for psychoeducational assessments.
