Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is working with a clinician over time on the patterns that shape your inner life and your relationships — how you respond to stress, loss, conflict, and change, and what you want to be different. Where an assessment answers a question, therapy is the process of change itself: understanding yourself in context, and building a way of living that is sustainable for your actual life.

At Silm Centre for Mental Health, therapy is person-centred and trauma-informed, within a social-justice and anti-oppressive lens. Our clinicians offer therapy in English, French, Spanish, Gujarati, Tamil, Farsi (Persian), Turkish, Dari, Urdu, and Hindi, in person at our North York (Toronto) and Oakville offices and virtually. Sessions are $200–$300 per hour depending on the clinician, reduced-fee spots are available through our supervised student clinicians, and the first step is a free initial consultation — where we help you find the right service and the right clinician before you commit to anything.

Individual Psychotherapy

One-to-one therapy for adults. People seek it for anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, grief, life transitions, identity and self-worth — or simply because something feels off and they want to understand it. (Teenagers have their own page — see Adolescent Psychotherapy below.)

Couples Therapy

Therapy for partners, together. Couples seek it when the same conflict keeps repeating, after a breach of trust, around a major transition — a baby, a move, a separation considered — or when they feel more like roommates than partners and want that to change. Our couples clinicians welcome relationships of many forms, including same-sex and queer couples and non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships.

Family Therapy

Therapy with the family members involved in a difficulty, together. Families seek it when a child or teenager is struggling, when communication keeps breaking down, after a diagnosis, separation, or loss — when the pattern lives between people, not inside one person.

→ Family Therapy

Child Psychotherapy

Therapy designed for children, with parents as partners. Parents seek it when a child becomes anxious or withdrawn, when feelings seem too big, when behaviour is hard to understand, or when a family change is being carried by a child.

→ Child Psychotherapy

Adolescent Psychotherapy

Therapy designed for teenagers, in a relationship that is genuinely theirs. Parents seek it when a teen becomes anxious, low, or withdrawn, when school pressure overwhelms, or when conflict at home has replaced conversation.

→ Adolescent Psychotherapy

Play Therapy

Therapy for young children, in the medium children actually use: play. Parents seek it for anxiety, emotional outbursts, transitions, separation or loss — the experiences young children show in behaviour and play long before they can say them in words.

→ Play Therapy

Group Psychotherapy

Therapy in a led group of people working on similar challenges. People seek it for the combination of skills, perspective, and not being the only one — including our ADHD Skills and Support Group and ACT Skills Group, which run periodically.

→ Group Psychotherapy

ADHD Coaching

Practical, forward-looking coaching for the daily mechanics of ADHD — planning, starting, organizing, following through. People seek it after a diagnosis (“now what?”), or when school, work, or home systems keep collapsing despite real effort and ability.

Consultation and Organizational Services

For schools, workplaces, and community organizations rather than individuals: workshops, training, and consultation on mental health, burnout, trauma-informed practice, and sexual health — from the same clinical team.
